Further Up and Further In
Yo! I just discovered Scrivener, and I think it's going to help tremendously!
No, I can't work on my writing website right now! Maybe tomorrow. I'm getting there. I'm catching up. I'm recovering. It's been a long hiatus, I know. Never fear; projects will be underway again soon.
For now, I discovered this new software, and it's going to make my lesson plans so much happier.
I've been teaching Life Skills at a home school co-op. I have relatively organized sections — but they don't have to go in any particular order, so I've been bogged down by the question of how to move around which one happens when.
I tried a spreadsheet, but it was clunky.
I tried a plain document, but it was impossible to visualize all my pieces.
Then, I tried Scrivener. Not only can I see all of my lesson plan pieces, but I can also shift them about with a lazy push of the mousepad.
I can't even begin to comprehend all the options this program has, but I know it's gonna be an invaluable resource for lesson plans and beyond!
I've already started sorting my miscellaneous story sketches into a unified project.
The only hiccup I've encountered so far is that I can't view my lovely documents on my phone — but I can at least store them on the cloud. I won't be losing anything, and I could load them onto a new computer in case of an emergency.
Besides that then, I'm quite excited about streamlining my work better!
The project I've been dreaming about for too long now is my online creative writing course. He has far too many parts scattered throughout cyberspace: documents, notes, notebook entries, emails, and more.
I'm gonna pile them into the friendly viewer and find some way to organize them!
What else is going on you ask? Too much. Really too much. But that's ok. God is good, and He keeps calling me back, singing me back, pulling me back to Him.
It's never quite what I expected, but it's always "further up and further in" (a line from the Chronicles of Narnia).
And now what? I'm trying to keep my brain from centrifugal forcing it's way out.
Do you know how much I miss physics? A lot. It was a good day when I could visualize the equations that would explain traveling on the road.
I loved it. It was some mix of puzzle and wizardry: like I could put the pieces in order and see a pretty picture, but I could also delve into the deep unknowns of what makes the world keep on moving.
It was good stuff.
The world is huge, and I am this tiny speck flying on a slightly larger speck in the midst of some huge specks hurtling through a monstrous weave of specks.
And God looks at us.
It's wild.
