Werbel Is Back on Track!
Buggers!
Now I don't know what to do with myself!
I reread Werbel and continued it a bit. They're going to war! Obviously – inside the story – this is no good, but I'm glad it's going to happen. It seemed too thin, too small. Now, they're going to contact other villages and defeat the evil lizard emperor once and for all. Plus, this gives Werbel time to become a truly badass little dude. It gives more breathing room for everything.
So I don't know what to do with myself. I paid a few bills because I downright have to.
Oi. There's a lot of stuff – especially early on in the story – that's cumbersome. I began it in high school. I refurbished a lot of it in the past few years, but it's still not as crisp as I've become recently. That's ok I suppose. Draft one is supposed to be rough. Werbel's going to be badass. Sturga gets to regain his true smith's heart. His daughters will probably become excellent smiths too. They don't have many good swordsmen left though. Jalek is some kinda captured. Sturga's plenty good, but his heart is in the crafting of them, not the wielding of them. Jeremy's a reasonable swordsman. Who will arise to fulfill that need? I'm not sure. Carta? He'd be totally unexpected, but he's the only other name that even pops in my head. MAYBE ALLISON WILL BECOME A RUNEMASTER! That would be totally wacky! But like ultra awesome! But unexpected! But still amazing! Something like that would have to happen. Half the reason I created Xormite (the name of the special mineral) was because I was tiring of the story and wanted something magical; I also needed something that the lizards wanted. I anticipate there being some ancient, complex entanglement between rabbits and lizards specifically orbiting around the mysterious Xormite. The name is kinda cool, but I'm not completely set on it. We'll see if anything inspiring shows up.
Excitingly is obvious. I said sadly, though, because I was originally planning on quickly switching gears out of mildly fantastic, young-adult fiction into wildly fantastic Time Knight or something like that. MAYBE! Maybe, just maybe even, after I finish Werbel, I'll dive straight into Tetraearth. We'll see how much I've accomplished for Tetraearth by then. Not today. Not today. One book at a time.

Xormite: a mysterious metal that is magically linked to an ancient, runic language. Poets have said that words inscribed into the metal resonate with the lingering whispers of the ancient ones, chanting through time and space. Craftsmen have said that inscriptions will often evoke a property or reaction that aligns with an inscribed word or phrase, though no craftsmen has yet been able to conclude any kind of formula. Philosophers say that certain energies remain from when the elders were alive. Certain emotions or convictions govern how an inscription will interact with a craft and its surroundings. Ultimately, little can be conclusively said about Xormite besides the fact that it is powerful and unpredictable. What do I do with that?! It's gonna be tough to keep it reasonable. More and more, I want things to be fantastically magical or bogglingly cybernetic. Both sadly and excitingly, this Xormite stuff poises the stage for future books. After it's used to assist in overthrowing Rrrassiktchyackachrrr, how will its powers unfold? I imagine serious wizardy stuff in Werbel's (maybe Allison's) future. I know I totally have to finish the first book, but imagine Allison as a runemaster who engraves sick weapons for the badass warrior Werbel! Not today. Not today. Not today. I'm just glad I'm back on track with that poor boy. No. Not poor boy. That impending warrior. He won't be as darkened as Alabaster, but he's going to change a lot. How long will he be Chirrratka's project? I imagine at least a year. Will he meet up with his father? Can they clandestinely continue training? Will Jalek survive? I haven't even seen Jesse in a while. The last time he was seen was when Werbel was thrown in his little isolation cell. We shall see.
