Observe and Extrapolate

There is always so much to say! And then there's always the debate between babbling in no particular direction or sketching another story.

I moved this past Saturday. It was an event for which I postponed many things. And not really that "many" things — but just a few big things. Living in a new place has its own adjustments to sink in, but I already feel this slow lean, this cranking pull — like being drawn to the top of a rollercoaster.

You're leaning back, so you have the subtle sensation of regressing, but you hear the winching, you see the scenery fall from peripheral vision. The sky slowly fills your vision, and you know you're about to take the rushing dive into twists and turns of adventure.

"Adventure is out there!" — if you've seen the movie Up. And adventure really is out there! And it is perilous and glorious! There are hurts aplenty and joys aplenty, and I am learning to embrace them both.

Freedom. Freedom in Christ is a glorious thing! Ah, but how do you know you have it? I gotta quote Stophro"Know [is a] very finicky [term]. I do not know; I only observe and extrapolate."

I met a man once who assured me he lived in freedom. Paradoxically, that man is one of my prime examples for the absence of freedom. Let's not get into that just now...

I try to be like Stophro; I try to observe and extrapolate.

Have you ever met someone who seems untouched by the planet? Now, I'm not saying untouched by feelings or confusion. I'm not saying untouched by miscalculations or doubt. But there's some special frequency — like a separate frequency altogether — that seems unfettered by so many chains that hold so many down.

Have you ever tasted freedom: wild, bright, moving, alive?

I wish I could tell you the whole story. It has already been an impossible undertaking just to articulate it to her. There is always so much to say. So much.

Freedom: by God's grace, I have been learning to live in freedom! But it is something unbelievable. It is something intergalactic. It is something incomprehensible to be able to share that with someone!

A world. The world. The whole world of adversities and adventures rolling out like a tapestry: a story that's already been woven, waiting to be enjoyed. Or spreading out like a smorgasbord: a great feast full of varied dishes, waiting to be selected.

And a grand part of the freedom is that not everything needs to be seen or selected. It is all just there, reverberating with possibility!
