Tense Lizards and a Ranting Man
1028 words: solid progress. More and more, I know how much I'll need to redraft so much of my book, but, at the same time, I sense the strength of the story more and more.
Tensions are rising between Chirrratka and Rrraktotrrraka. (I know: I may have to change their names. For now, I am content with their titles "the slaver" and "the librarian" respectively. Hopefully, that will suffice.)
Here's a selected excerpt from today:
In other news, I wrote outside today. There was a crazy guy sitting a two tables away from me. I wanted to believe he was on a phone, talking to a motorcycle buddy of his or something. As far as I could tell, he was just ranting profanities at me or at no one in particular. His volume rose and fell, but his F-bombs flowed steadily. He had a lot of really emphatic hand gestures too; it was a bit distracting. He muttered the whole time I was out there and only interrupted himself to chat up every young lady that walked by. It was pretty creepy.
I wonder what his story is. Maybe I'll ask him if I see him again.

"You are a disgrace to the lizard way."
"The lizard way is changing, and you are just an old, dusty bookkeeper."
"Better to keep books than to spurn everything we have been trying to build."
Chirrratka walked away from him slowly with swords still aimed at him. He picked up the two daggers he had knocked away. He held them out, hilts first, to the librarian at a sword's distance. "You will need these soon enough," he said softly.

Can't wait to hear th8is man's story.
