Magic and Technology
Someday, perhaps.
For now, have you ever been doing something (listening to a Pandora station for example hypothetically) that you know will distract you from working (writing for example hypothetically), but you don't want to do something else that's less distracting (listening to ocean sounds for example hypothetically)?
Whew! This song is less cool, so I can switch it off.
I am amazed at how fast we humans panic. I do it like all the time, but it is of course easier to see when others do it. I try really hard not to take myself seriously — especially when I panic; it's sort of working.
In other news, I miss video games; I really do. For those of you who have played video games, can't you just recall an evening after work or school or whatever, you turn on your machine, the little start screen pops up, and you load your save file? Weekends: weekends were magical. They are again! It's just that, back then, they were nostalgical! (Nostalgic + magical. Just in case it wasn't obvious.)
Magical! Things are magical. Shoot. I can't write about that yet! Well, I am writing about magic. Meadowvale is magical — but only just. It's kinda funny: a couple years ago, I felt bored of Meadowvale, so I threw magic into it. I don't know if I really was bored or just distant, but I'm glad I added the old words — whatever they are.
Hullabaloo.
I forget how I originally came by this idea, but I did something weird. I forget exactly what it was, but it was something like trying to swipe closed a book — or something like that.
In any case! The overall idea was integrating more of life with technology. I know it can sound scary, but I was imagining having my GPS integrate with my calendar so I could just select an event without having to type in an address. Or having some kind of system that turns voice notes into specific documents. For example, I could be working on voice-writing a book and interrupt myself with a a quick checklist. All of it would be done with voice commands. Then, I could switch to an email and finally go back to writing the book.
Perhaps someday, they'll have something that does your taxes for you by default! People are making too much money doing your taxes for you, so that's probably never gonna change, but, hey, that's why we have sci-fi and fantasy!
The IRS is already watching your every move anyway. Why can't they just do your flippin' taxes for you?
Whatevs.
In other other news, it's slow. Everything is. It just takes so much time and plotting and plodding and planning and pleading.
Here's the thing: I want to write something else, but I don't feel geared up for a story, but it feels too awkward just to start a new rambling post. Maybe I should dive into a story, just wing it, give it the old college try and whatnot. There are a bajillion things I could do, but none of them calls to me right now. I really do just want to write forever. Oi.
Oi oi oi.
We'll see what storyland holds.

Oi, distractions!!
ReplyDeleteI've been working from home today to meet a deadline. Working from home is great for eliminating the long commute time...but the problem comes from the ability to keep my personal laptop open at the same time as my work laptop. I've recently discovered Mumi's music, and my distraction right now is trying to figure out how to count the beats in this video:

I can't figure it out, Oi!!! Guess I'd better get back to work now.
